Who may apply?

A

Students who desire an educational experience founded on the Catholic philosophy of education and who fulfill age, health, academic, and behavioral requirements. (Parent/Student Handbook 2015-2016)

When does registration open?

A

Registration for the upcoming school year opens in November of the current school year.

Q

Is there a deadline for application submission?

A

St. Mary’s follows a rolling admissions policy. To be considered for possible acceptance in the first round of evaluations, completed applications, along with all supporting documents, must be received by February 6.

When will parents be notified of enrollment decisions?

A

Parents are notified of admissions decisions in early March. Children not admitted are placed on our waitlist.

Q

What are the hours of the school day?

A

Classes for students in grades K—5 begin at 8:00am.
Classes for students in grades 6, 7, and 8 begin at 7:55am.
Dismissal for all grades is 3:15pm (except on Wednesday, when dismissal is 2:15pm).
Preschool begins each day at 8:00am and ends at 12:00pm (except on Wednesday, when enrichment is offered until 2:00pm).

Do you offer before and after school daycare?

A

An after-care program is available to families with children enrolled in grades K-8. We do not offer supervised care before the school day begins.

How many students are in each classroom?

A

Our target class size is 26 students with instructional aides in grades K-3.

How many classrooms per grade?

A

There are three classrooms at each grade level.

How do your standardized test scores compare against the national average?

A

St. Mary’s students score above the national average with the majority of our students performing in the top 25th percentile on standardized assessments.

Do you offer a gifted and talented program?

A

St. Mary’s practices differentiated instruction meeting the needs of our diverse learners. This is particularly evident in Language Arts via the Word Study and the Accelerated Reader programs. Additionally, students in grades 6-8 have the opportunity for advanced math placement.

Where can I find your curriculum guidelines?

A

All schools in the Diocese of Arlington follow the same curriculum. Guidelines are posted on the Diocese of Arlington website, www.arlingtondiocese.org, under the “Education” tab, as well as on this website under the Academics heading.

Do you offer extracurricular activities?

A

Yes. Refer to the St. Mary’s Fact Sheet under the “Application Materials” tab, or for further review go to the Student Life heading on this website.

Do you offer hot lunch?

A

A hot lunch is served daily, along with fresh selections, such as prepared salads and sandwiches.

Q

Is there bus service to your school?

A

Parent-organized bus service, which is coordinated with the City of Alexandria, is available for a fee to families living in Alexandria's Rosemont area.
