School Counseling

Parents, faculty and students at St. Mary's come together to support the social and emotional concerns that arise throughout the elementary and middle school years.

Our faculty and school counselor work in tandem to respond to the individual situations and needs of our students.  Not only does our counselor offer classroom guidance, but she also provides individual supportive counseling for students as needed.   Helping students establish a postive self-esteem and self-image is an essential role of our counseling services.  For current parents in search of additional information, go to the School Counseling Page on Edline.

Our full-time, professional school counselor offers school-wide enrichment which fosters respect and appreciation for all students.  Making sure students feel safe, cared for and respected is an essential aspect of success in our environment.  We embrace the Christian Awareness of Respect for Everyone (CARE) program, which is endorsed by the Diocese of Arlington.  Here are some of the fundamental elements we explore with our students:

  • Understanding Your Feelings and the Feelings of Others
  • Appreciating the Differences in Others
  • Bullying Prevention
  • The Role and Responsibilities of the Bystander
  • Problem Solving
  • Communicating Postively with others
  • Showing Empathy for Others
  • Active Listening
  • Impulse Control

"Our school should be a place where students should come to feel safe, be happy and learn."
