Principal's Welcome

Welcome to The Basilica School of Saint Mary!  Throughout our rich history of over 150 years, we have formed many generations of children intellectually, spiritually, and in moral character. We are the largest apostolate of The Basilica of Saint Mary, serving over seven hundred students and located in the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria. 

Parents partner with us in trust so that we can continue the formation of their children, nurturing them to become saints, good stewards, and excellent scholars. We know that each child in our community has an infinite value, as they are made in God's image and likeness. In our work, we seek to develop each child's gifts, whether apparent or yet to be revealed, always with an eye to their eternal destiny. 

Our exemplary faculty guides our students to see the beauty of the truth through our rigorous academic program while encouraging their daily pursuit of what is morally and spiritually good. This occurs during our daily instruction, beautiful liturgies, and community activities, such as our Saintly Families program, which fosters leadership, service, and growth in character. Our teachers also form children by modeling their lives, making every interaction count. We teach them to develop their gifts as scholars and help them offer these back to God and others in love and service. 

This is a place that our students embrace and grow to love. It becomes a home for them, as it does for their parents, even after they leave. We welcome you to learn more about our community!
