Catechesis of The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.
John 10:14-15

What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd?
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at The Basilica School of Saint Mary is a Montessori-based religious education program for students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. It takes place in a specially prepared space called the Atrium, located next to our school chapel, created for children to fall in love with God.

The Atrium: A Sacred Space for Spiritual Discovery

Immerse your child in a thoughtfully prepared environment where they can:

  • Listen in stillness and silence to hear God's gentle whisper

  • Uncover the power of Mary's "yes" and its profound impact on the world

  • Explore significant biblical lands and cities like Nazareth, Bethlehem, and Jerusalem

  • Consider the role of angels, dreams, and obedience in connecting with God

  • Ponder the profound teachings of the Kingdom through vivid parables

  • Rest in the unconditional love and guidance of the Good Shepherd

  • Wonder at Christ present in the Scripture and Liturgy

Participating in the atrium weekly, your child will spend quiet time in prayer, discover the beauty of the liturgy, and reflect on the mysteries of the Kingdom of God and the "Good news of great joy!“ (Luke 2:10)

Sessions are led by professionally trained and certified teachers for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.
