Offering the Loving Hand of Jesus

WE CARE WEEK 2020  December 4 - 11, 2020

Sponsored by the Basilica School of Saint Mary Student Council and National Honors Society in partnership with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, the Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Arlington.

On Friday, December 4, 2020, the Basilica School of Saint Mary community will join together at morning Mass to pray for and launch a week-long series of student and faculty-led initiatives to bring continued awareness and empathy for our brothers and sisters in need in our local community. Participation by the greater parish community is welcomed and encouraged for the following projects:

  • Tuesday, December 1: Giving Tuesday for the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul

Our goal is to raise $10,000 in support of the mission and families served by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.  Please share your support by making a gift online to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul on this special day.

  • Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6: No Touch, No Contact Food Drive for the St. Lucy Project

In collaboration with the Knights of Columbus, the school is hosting a special food drive in front of the South Royal Street gate entrance on Saturday, December 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and in front of the Basilica of Saint Mary on Sunday, December 6 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items that can be donated include: Non-perishable food items (no glass items please), disposable masks, bars of soap, sticks of deodorant, toothbrush & toothpaste, small shampoo, small lotion, toilet paper, razors & non-aerosol shaving cream/gel. We will also make COVID kits for people at Christ House with those items as we get them.

Simply drive up to the food collection area and a volunteer will take your donations from your car's backseat or trunk. The St. Lucy Food Distribution Program gladly accepts monetary donations and gift cards to Aldi’s, Walmart, and Giant/Martin’s etc. Checks can be made out to: Catholic Charities with “St. Lucy Project” in the memo line.

  • The Annual Sharing Our Christmas Blessings Project

The Student Council and National Honors Society will lead the school community in providing spiritual support and Christmas gifts to 13 Families served by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
